The homeowners desired an outdoor room to be built on an existing concrete slab. This new room's roof was required to compliment a new higher roof over an existing elevated patio. The rear of the house's western exposure drove the design of the elevation as the owner wanted maximum shade in order to comfortably occupy the space in the afternoon. The pitch and height of the roof was determined according the structurally acceptable location for the ledger beam. The final design solved the need for afternoon shade as well as complimented the exsiting house's architecture.
